And if a friend asks to borrow it, think twice before answering; you may never see it again. Those suggestions are based on the experience we had with last year's edition of this annual publication. It turned out to be so popular that our own supply was completely exhausted, and we have had to return unfilled thousands of orders that came to us through the mail. The appeal of the "Girl Next Door" contest is the talk of the magazine industry. Fortunately for Gallery, everyone who has tried to imitate it has overlooked the most important ingredient in our success: the respect we give to our entries by maintaining a degree of tastefulness in photo selection. Every month, we receive thousands of color and black-andwhite photographs—slides and prints—from men who are proud of the women in their lives, and who want to help fulfill their dream of becoming a magazine centerfold. From my own personal standpoint, two things about this contest please me greatly: the opportunity it offers us to demonstrate that some of the most desirable women in the world are closer to you than you think — perhaps right in your own home—and, secondly, that our readers feel close enough to Gallery to share their women with us. We will never let you down.
