One of the original Goons, now solo comedian, actor, playwright, poet and novelist, Spike has almost become a British institution. Approaching him for an exclusive feature, we simply suggested that he write anything he fancied about sex — pro or con, sane or insane. The result is one of the most outrageous articles we have ever published — as we're sure you'll agree when you read it. Another unusual feature is young Rod Caird's account of the sexual problems created by imprisonment, and in this case the author certainly knows what he is talking about. Freshly graduated from Cambridge, Caird spent a year in jail for his part in a political demonstration. His chronicle of that year was published in book form as A Good and Useful Life (Hart-Davis, MacGibbon, £3.50) and his contribution to this issue of Club International is both amusing and highly instructive. An excellent wedding of the printed word to the artist's vision is The Faint Burp of Oracles on page 68. Novelist Walter Harris (Clovis, The Mistress of Downing Street) has interviewed just about everyone worth interviewing (the most recent being Peter Ustinov for the June issue of Men Only), and in his witty account of the interviewer's misadventures he is aptly supported by the surrealistic caricatures of illustrator Peter Brooks. Walter's next book, The Day I Die, is to be published this coming November; it will be followed by others next year. Our fashion this month is, naturally, as stunning as ever. Wendy Gable picked the clothes, and David Parkinson took the photographs with his customary expertise. And for those motoring freaks among you, who are sighing over the fact that there's nothing for you in this issue, a few words of consolation. Next month we'll all be down by the seaside with a very sporty car and, we sincerely hope, a very sporty lady or three. Definitely something to look forward to — and not just for you! This month our photographers have really done us proud. Regulars Amnon Bar-Tur, Eugene Finkei and Mike Bramman are still with us, but also contributing some lovely ladies are Julio Wizuette and Christer Flodqvist. And, of course, Candid Cameos continues with its saucy text and naughty photographs; our fiction is an hilarious, sexy romp; Erich von Daniken gets a good going over; and Sexicon is packed with far out facts. A little something for everyone.
