Some of them were made with such impossibly low budgets that they have never been released through regular channels of distribution. Many are now considered classics or cult films despite unfavorable critical response or initial box office failure. Critics searching for art condemn most of these features for the very reasons that millions continue to enjoy them: violence, sex, noise, and often mindless escapism." But, as we all know by now, there's no escaping the Sleuth... Movieline recently traced the spurt of sexuality {so to speak} in genre films back to the 1950's "when the advent of TV hovered as a threat that might take audiences away from film-going forever and studio heads fell prey to the frenzied logic that Bigger would lure audiences back: Bigger budgets, Bigger screens, Bigger locations, Bigger breasts." And we know our readers are accustomed to such largesse... The boob tube countered this big screen explosion in the '60s by programming as much lust in space as would fly. "TV executives were on to something," an insider recalls. "Give the kids any kind of sci-fi superhero trash...but lace it with sex and you've snagged the closet viewer: the horny, adult male." No wonder, then, that the National Air and Space Museum's 1992 Star Trek exhibit contained an entire wall dedicated to SEXUALITY. "There was a lot of sexuality on Star Trek," an observer noted. "Science fiction has always offered wonderful and zany costuming opportunities." And wonderful opportunities for Sleuth... In this same column introducing "Women of Fantasy 4" I boasted: "More than half the wondrous women listed above have never before been stripped in Sleuth...nor any other men's magazine!" In this fifth installment, the number of newcomers rises to 83 percent!! Ever upward is our steady course... Take Us to Warp!
