It seems like only yesterday I flew to Los Angeles to sign up the rights to publish HUSTLER with Larry Flynt, and 1 have fond memories of the incredible enthusiasm which greeted the first issue of HUSTLER SA in August 1993. In his introductory message to our readers, Flynt wrote: "It is my sincere hope that HUSTLER South Africa brings you not only the best erotic photography and sexual information in the world, but that it stands as a forum for free expression in the important period that lies ahead." You will agree, no doubt, that HUSTLER has fulfilled Flynt's desire to establish his flagship as the foremost men's interest publication in the land, and we've come a long way since that much talked-about first edition. Today, HUSTLER is better and brighter than ever before. This edition, for example, is streaks ahead of that famous first one as far as print quality, colour reproduction and editorial content goes. For a variety of market-related reasons we're not selling as many copies of HUSTLER today as we did in those glorious first years, but our philosophy has remained the same: We're in this business to have fun, and to bring you top-class photo spreads, sexual information, humour, parodies and a dash of political satire crammed into one colourful, exciting package. I also need to point out that the same team that started HUSTLER five years ago is still around, from the editor down to the company driver and the teagirl. My sincere thanks go to them. As I've said before, our commitment to our readers means they always come first, in more ways than one! We're celebrating our birthday with a variety of special offers on adult videos, and we're giving away more than R50 000 worth of super celebratory prizes, as detailed on pages 10 and 11. Celebrating with us are the likes of radio's Jeremy Mansfield, who feeds his face and reveals more about himself on page 38; nude king Beau Brummell, who tells tales of lust and debauchery from his years as a rock singer in London; and a bevy of beauties who were captured on film when they stripped bare to surprise the horny dudes in HUSTLER's production department. And don't miss the controversy-ridden history of HUSTLER SA stuffed in a witty nutshell as you page over from the centre. The piglet in the old Warner Brothers cartoon jingle used to stutter, "Beep, Beep Be-Beep Beep! That's all folks!" which is quite a suitable ending to this message. Yes, guys and dolls, on this memorable occasion we at HUSTLER feel like a bunch of naughty pigs rolling about merrily in a pool of champagne and caviar. Hey, we've got something to gloat about. We blow our own trumpet, bang the big drum and look forward to the next five years. Come along gang, pig out with us!
